Ways You Can Help Make A Difference |
Become a Mentor
Mentors help the one in his or her care to grow personally and professionally through motivation, support, guidance, and encouragement as well as acting as a role model, life coach, and friend.
There are three easy steps to becoming a mentor:
- Request and submit a volunteer application and background check.
- Participate in an interview with a member of the program staff.
- Attend a mandatory training session.
Mentors will be matched with a mentee after the completion of the steps above including reference checks. Matching is based on the compatibility of the mentor and mentee.
Of 400 high school students with mentors who participated in a Louis Harris poll*:
73% said mentors helped them raise their goals and expectations.
87% went to college or planned to attend college within two years of graduation.
59% improved their grades.
87% said they felt some benefit from their mentoring relationship.
