Our Story

The Birth of Promising Partners
Brandy Schimmel, a teen parent participant in the Lewisville ISD School Age Parent Program (SAPP) remembered how lonely, scared, and isolating it felt being a teen parent. Several years after graduating Brandy made it her goal to help others the way she had been helped, reaching out to Community in Schools, she began to mentor one of the district’s youngest parents, a 13 year old young mother entering the 8th grade.

While mentoring this young mother Brandy began researching mentoring programs and was granted a scholarship to participate in the Governor’s Volunteer Leadership Conference in Austin. The next year was spent utilizing every resource available including workshops, conferences, foundations, organizations, individuals, and groups within the community to create a mentoring program that focuses on the educational and personal development of teen parents.

Who We Are
Promising Partners is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the educational and personal development of teen parents.

Mission
Promising Partners strives to empower teen parents and maximize their personal potential by providing social, emotional, and educational support through one-on-one mentoring, ultimately breaking the cycle of poverty and welfare.

Purpose
Our purpose is to support teen parents through the completion of high school and foster opportunities for further education, ultimately changing their destiny.

Vision
Our vision is to have a program in which teen parents receive the support they need to complete high school and foster opportunities for further education.

This program provides a network of support for teen parents from volunteer mentors and the community, ultimately changing their destiny by breaking the cycle of educational and economic failure in the youngest of families.

Promising Partners provides teen parents with the support and resources they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency and independence, support their family, and become productive citizens.

Services

Mentoring Program for Teen Parents
This program matches teen mothers and fathers with volunteer mentors from the community. Mentors are required to meet with their mentees at least four to six hours per month for one year, working directly with the teen parent to offer support, guidance, help set life goals, and have fun.

Peer Support Group
The peer support group meets monthly to allow teen parents time with other teen parents, providing emotional and social support to pregnant and parenting teens. During this group teen parents are allowed to share parenting techniques, life issues, and encourage each other through rough times.

Life Skills Workshops
These workshops will be scheduled once a month to meet the needs of our teen parents. Workshops will focus on skills that are necessary to meet life goals such as goal setting, job readiness, character building, self-esteem, parenting, and career planning to name a few. Our services are free to teen parents (mother and father) ages 13 to 19 and are volunteer based. Funding for our program comes from corporate giving, foundations, community groups, and individual contributions.
